Beauty I usually place my beauty dish as close to the model as I can. Why? Because the closer the light is to your subject, the softer the light. My dish is placed high above the face, angled down on it at about a 45 degree angle. It also can be placed directly centered above the model’s face.  This is normally referred to as “paramount” lighting. It got its name from Paramount Studios.

Beauty This lighting was used constantly as a female “glamour” light. Remember the old Hollywood portraits made famous by photographers like George Hurrell? He used this lighting to accent the cheekbones and give a broad look to a narrow face. It is also sometimes referred to as “butterfly lighting” because of the small butterfly shadow under the nose. The shadow should fall half way between under the nose and the upper lip. With paramount lighting, I generally use a fill light to soften the shadows.

Beauty I have to add here that paramount lighting has been deemed “unforgiving” light because it works best on women with high cheekbones and good skin. Beauty dishes somewhat reinforce that rule because when they are not diffused the light can equally be a bit harsh. Because I shoot young models, generally, with good skin, also generally, I don’t have too many dilemmas with this lighting. But I should say here that yes, it does have it downfalls on girls who don’t have the strongest bone structure or who have some skin issues.

Enter my Perricone giveaway and learn about Perricone Supplements!

Hey, guys!

Yay for the weekend -- and yay for a Perricone giveaway! :D

Perricone offers amazing skincare products that cover a wide range of problem areas like eyes and neck, and treats common skin concerns like acne, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, discoloration, etc.

If you are not familiar with Perricone skincare products, you are probably wondering what they have to offer... here are some that sound great to me:

Advanced Eye Area Therapy ($95)

Advanced Eye Area Therapy is formulated with DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid to help prevent and correct the early signs of aging that appear around the delicate eye area, making us look older than we really are. It minimizes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness, while diminishing dark circles and discoloration with Vitamin C Ester. Paraben-free.

Cold Plasma Eye ($95)

Skin Clear Hydrator ($55)

Skin Clear Hydrator encourages regeneration and renewal of skin's appearance, giving it a smoother and healthy looking surface. DMAE is added to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while providing firming benefits. With continued use, skin will appear more soft and clear. It's also formulated especially for oily skin with Allatoin, which helps to reduce surface debris while relieving dryness and increasing skin's natural moisture.

Hydrating Nutrient Mask ($65)

This moisturizing mask instantly imparts a healthy and radiant glow. It delivers rich nutrients and antioxidants with Tocotrienols to hydrate and protect skin, while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hydrating Nutrient Mask is a perfect way to refresh tired, lackluster skin.

IMATS Los Angeles 2011 Part 2! :D

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July! How did you spend the long weekend?

I spent it with my family – eating, hanging out, and watching fireworks. I turned 21 yesterday, it’s so crazy to think that I am now 21. Woah. But, anyway, thanks again to those who wished me a happy birthday! :D

It’s been a busy couple of days, hence no new posts since Wednesday. I’ll make up for it with Part 2 of my IMATS photos! :)

To see Part 1, please click here.

Let's start the second part of my day at IMATS!

Press&Media for Mehron Makeup

Wundercover = amazing product! It covers everything from freckles to pimples to spider veins, and a little goes a long way. :)

I also loved all the eyeshadows - the colors are just so beautiful and the choices are endless!

Make Up For Ever booth:

There are tons of other booths at IMATS! I couldn't even keep track of all of them. ;)

If you've always loved makeup, you will have a blast because it's practically "makeup heaven"! If you're just starting out with makeup, you will have a blast because there are so many brands and products to try and learn about. :)

There are also booths that sell hair accessories, my heart literally jumped upon seeing this booth.

All the feather headbands and clips were a hit!

They also sold fascinators, haha!

Confession: I wanted to buy one, but I didn't. ;P

I'm not sure what this next picture is... I guess the hair accessories distracted me, haha.

Here are photos of the many other products available at IMATS:

Other things to see at IMATS:

I stayed until closing - yup, until they turned off the lights and asked everyone to exit the exhibit floor. :)

Bye, IMATS! ;)

All in all, it was a fun experience. Tiring, but definitely fun!

I hope you guys liked my IMATS post!

If you've been to IMATS, what did you think of it? If you haven't, is it something you would consider attending? :D

Have a great rest of the week! :)

IMATS Los Angeles 2011 Part 1! :D

Hey, guys! :D

How has your week been?!

I just spent the day going through my IMATS photos - surprisingly, I took a lot! They are all sorted out and this is just the first part! ;)

It was a fun experience - I learned so much about makeup, there were brands I've never tried (Graftobia, Mehron, and OCC to name a few), cool products that I didn't even know about (Model in a Bottle and Beauty So Clean!), and superb artistry - like seriously, amazing!

I tried my best to put my photos in order. For bigger pictures, please click each. :)

I got there at around 8:30am. You'd think that's early, right? Nope, there were so many people in line - I was like, "Wow!".

Pasadena Civic Auditorium

Where Hollywood Week for American Idol was held, haha. ;)

I love the location! There are so many restaurants around, you won't have a hard time finding a place to eat. And if you have some money left over, you can browse the stores at the Paseo Colorado - they have Sephora and MAC (yeah, more makeup, haha!), Reference (but it's really Forever 21), BCBG Max Azria, DSW, Macy's... I love this place! And Old Town Pasadena is just a couple of blocks away, we always walk to Old Town -- hello, big Forever 21 and H&M!

Okay, gotta focus... IMATS!

Yes, of course I posed in front of that IMATS poster (but, that's not me, haha). ;P

I took some pictures while in line... the line was long, no kidding!

Well, actually this wasn't so bad. It was long, but it moved quickly. They were organized and efficient. But I suggest getting there as early as you can because the line was crazy long when I went to lunch.

At the main entrance, this is the first thing you're gonna see:

Royal&Langnickel had a blogger event at the Sheraton Pasadena the day before IMATS, but I wasn't able to attend. Mary Anne from Royal&Langnickel was so nice, though! When she found out I am a blogger but wasn't able to attend, she still gave me the gift bag they gave out the day before. I will definitely take pictures of what I got for you guys to see. :D

This next picture are brushes from another stall, I just can't remember which one it's from. I have it on here anyway so you guys can see the different kinds of brushes available and what the price range is like. :)

Next stop: Napoleon Perdis!

I love that chandelier they had! :)

Then, I went to NYX.

There were so many people at the NYX area! They had a lot of products and the prices are great!

Here are some of the NYX products I checked out:

After that I walked around, and stopped at the BodyFX booth. Really cool stuff!

If you get stuff from BodyFX, imagine how cool you would be for Halloween! ;)

There was a booth selling some really pretty brush rolls, and one of their designs (not sure which one though :/) is a favorite of Lady Gaga's.

Another brand I am not familiar with is Crown Brush. They had a lot of really affordable products!

I also mentioned superb artistry, right? Here are some of them:

Funny story... this guy (Or girl? I'm not so sure...) was lurking behind me, probably planning to scare me or something, haha. Good thing I saw his reflection on my camera. ;)

So cool! This one is my favorite! :)

I also really appreciate how professional the models are. They will really stop and smile for photos. :D

Yay for Part 1! :D

I hope you enjoyed this post. I have other photos to share with you guys, watch out for Part 2. :)

Have you attended IMATS? How was it for you?
Did you go to the Los Angeles IMATS this past weekend?
